Van Buren State Park is located in northwest Ohio and boasts many enjoyable outdoor activities. Like many of Ohio’s state parks, Van Buren offers plenty of land and water adventures to enjoy. It’s location also gives access to other nearby parks and attractions.

Land Activities

Camping, hunting, picnicking, hiking, and biking are all available activities at Van Buren State Park. The campground offers 50 sites, some electric and some non-electric. Picnic tables and shelter houses throughout the park make a stop for a packed lunch easy.

Hunting is an option on the eastern side of the park. Take note that it is a designated area and only archery hunting is allowed.

Three miles of mountain biking trails await cyclists. Horseback riders can enjoy nearly ten miles of bridle trails. Fifteen miles of hiking trails traverse Van Buren, in addition to the available mountain biking and bridle trails.

Dog owners also have access to a dog park full of obstacles and space for their canine friends.

Water Activities

Boating and fishing are available on Van Buren Lake at the state park. Crappie, bluegill, catfish, and bass can be found in the lake. Be sure to pack all you need for your fishing trip!

Nearby Parks and Attractions

Van Buren State Park is near several other of Ohio’s state parks and other attractions. These include Mary Jane Thurston State Park, Independence Dam State Park, and Harrison Lake State Park. Being at Van Buren also puts you within driving distance of several state parks along Lake Erie or on islands, including Maumee Bay State Park, Catawba Island State Park, East Harbor State Park, Marblehead Lighthouse State Park, Kelleys Island State Park, and South Bass Island State Park.

For those looking for something different to do, Cedar Point Amusement Park is less than a 90-minute drive away from Van Buren. Many rides, roller coasters, and games await those who wish to make this drive.
