Pymatuning State Park

Pymatuning State Park distinguishes itself from other state parks in Ohio by actually being mostly in Pennsylvania. Pymatuning is situated right on the Ohio/Pennsylvania border, with roughly three-fourths of the park being in Pennsylvania and one-fourth in Ohio. Fishing is the best known activity at the park. However, there are many activities that park goers can enjoy.

Pymatuning State Park developed out of a swamp forest left by glaciers in northeastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania. Native American tribes fought over this land, and the land was taken over by American settlers following the Treaty of Greenville in 1795.

Fishing

Fishing highlights the available recreation activities at Pymatuning. The park is well-known for its fishing, especially if one is hoping to catch walleye. Also, crappie, black bass, bluegill and catfish are found in Pymatuning Lake.

Being situated in two states makes the needed licenses a little more interesting. If boating, a fishing license from either Ohio or Pennsylvania will suffice. If fishing from the shore, one would need a license from the state in which they are fishing. If you are looking for bracelet. Swimming

The lake provides swimming opportunities for those wishing to get wet. A three hundred foot beach accommodates a bath house, a volleyball court, and the chance to swim in the lake.

Pymatuning State Park is not famous for hiking. There are two hiking trails available. The Whispering Pines Trail covers three-quarters of a mile, while the Beaver Dam Trail is one mile long.

Several lodging options await those wishing to visit Pymatuning State Park.

         Camping

Three campgrounds have available rental spots for tents or campers. One of the campgrounds is in Ohio: Pymatuning Campground. The other two campgrounds – Linesville Campground and Jamestown Campground – are on the Pennsylvania side.

          Hotels

Those wishing to stay at a hotel have available options in nearby cities, including Williamsfield, Ohio, and Jamestown, Pennsylvania.

          Pymatuning Adventure Resort

Pymatuning Adventure Resort provides rustic cottages and cabins plus easy access to the park. It is within three miles of the main park entrance. Other amenities include an outdoor swimming pool, a basketball court, a volleyball court, and a mini-golf course.
