Plenty of rivers in Ohio make canoeing a pastime for many water-loving people. Canoeing in Ohio is made possible with the many waterways. People who canoe enjoy plenty of opportunities at the many scenic rivers in the Buckeye State. If you live in Ohio, there is a place to canoe nearby!

Stillwater River

One of the best rivers to canoe on in southwest Ohio is the Stillwater River. It is named “Stillwater” for a reason. Most of the year, the water hardly moves. Freezing in the winter has occurred. Learning to canoe on this river is perfect for growing as a canoer. A slow river provides a chance to learn about changing course quickly. Therefore, it will be easier to move on to rougher rivers if you wish. Starting on the Stillwater River for canoeing in Ohio is a smart idea.

Great Miami River

The Great Miami River is well-known in southwestern Ohio, just like the Stillwater River. Barefoot Canoe provides rental services on both the Stillwater and Great Miami. As a result, even if you do not have your own canoeing materials, you can still participate!

Cuyahoga River

The Cuyahoga River in the northeastern part of the state also provides plenty of canoeing in Ohio opportunities. Moreover, this river cuts directly through Cuyahoga Valley National Park. First of all, geocaching is basically a nature “treasure hunt.” Most involve biking and hiking, but canoeing can also get you to your destination. Find a cache, and mark the logbook with your visit! In many cases, collecting small trinkets is also possible. Grab a GPS, a friend, and get going!
